Bloomsbury Flowers | Peony season is here!
Bloomsbury Flowers was opened in 1994 by former Royal Ballet dancers, Stephen Wicks and Mark Welford, and quickly became synonymous with beautiful flowers, arranged beautifully.

Peony season is here!

Peony season is here!

Who doesn’t love a peony…?!  A bit like the English asparagus season, the peony season can be quite short so we love to over indulge and use them as much as possible. There are new varieties every year but we still love the old favourites. The blowsy double pink variety Sarah Bernhardt, the exquisitely scented white Duchesse de Nemours and the magical Coral Charm which starts off a bright coral pink then fades naturally to a pale salmon as the petals open.

Peonies are one of those flowers that work brilliantly en masse; in other words, a simple dome of head to head blooms placed in a globe vase is all you need for the perfect table arrangement.  They also work singly in a mixed selection of containers, perfect for dressing a mantle piece or side table…

Of course they work very well in mixed flower arrangements, and we’re lucky enough to have a wonderful selection of UK grown seasonal foliage to hand. Which at this time of the year includes scented geranium, herbs in all varieties and frothy green alchemilla mollis or Lady’s Mantle which is a real English country garden staple in herbaceous borders.

This year, we are lucky enough to have 3 weddings booked in May/June all of which have peony-based designs.  They are even all at the same venue, Ham Yard Hotel, so of course we have to make sure that each couple has their own bespoke design based around this fabulous seasonal flower, the peony.
